Petronas Offer

I was born, bred, live and study in the same state. (Borrowed this from Kareen Lee) Now it's my time to explore what other states has to offer for this mommy's boy!

I will be based in Petronas Carigali, SBO in Kota Kinabalu coming May 21st. My coursemate, Natasya got the same offer in similar division too, but in different departments.

A few questions from a KB (Kampong Boy)
  1. Is car/motorbike in Sabah more expensive than Peninsula?
  2. How much is the cost of shipping a car from Peninsula to Sabah?
  3. How much is rental for a decent house/room, located in vicinity of Kota Kinabalu town?
  4. How much does a plate of chicken rice cost in Kota Kinabalu?
  5. Does Sabah people speak Hakka? (Oh I hope Sabah is not a Chinese Hokkien-majority town. And I speak broken Mandarin.)
Kota Kinabalu is so far from my home state, and it seems that life is offering me more than what I expect!

Tagged: My 6th Picture from the 6th Picture Folder

Me and a few of my classmates have this penchant of taking photos of sleepyheads in the class. I myself may be one of the victims, because lectures got a lil bit boring sometimes.

Report to ESU KLCC

On what to bring to KLCC for reporting to ESU at Level 9. Among the items required are:
  • One (1) copy of passport sized photo
  • Two (2) copies of academic transcript
  • Final semester exam result slip
  • Two (2) copies of latest resume
  • Two (2) copies of certificates - certified true copy
  • Testimonial
  • Any other supporting documents.
I have noticed so many "versions" regarding the necessary items. Nevertheless, just bring all of them in your backpack, just in case.

Looks like everybody is putting KLCC photo into their blogs. I wish to jump into the bandwagon too. This photo is taken from Bukit Permai, Cheras @ Little Genting.

KUMAR

Lalaclubian will remember Kumar, the waiter at our local mamak Restaurant Ameeth at Tronoh. He is currently working in Salim Curry House at my hometown, Bidor. He went back to India for a long holiday and got married to a girl there.

His wife has just delivered their first baby 1 month ago. Unfortunately, his baby who is a boy is having some problems with his spine. I couldn't communicate well with him due to the language barrier, but one thing I am very sure. He loves his baby boy very much.

One customer placed an order for nasi goreng Pataya and a few Maggi goreng, so he gotta get back to work. The conversation stopped short of me giving him some words of support.

Hey I love baby too~

Okay. All of a sudden, I don't feel like writing anymore.

Shall stop here.

Kthanxbai~

p/s : Baby is a gift from God. It is never an accident.

UTP 2004 - 2008

The fact that invigilators for my last final examination are strict doesn't stop me from rejoicing when the clock ticks to 12.00 sharp!

I'm officially a graduate, unemployed and a liability to society. I don't pay any tax, yet I am entitled for subsidized healthcare at any government hospitals and petrol at our nearest ESSO or Shell.

Five long years here really opened up my perspective towards life. I found many friends here, but unfortunately they are all my juniors. I have also found out that there are generally two types of people here; one type is being "people that worth a mere 20 cents" and another type is "true friend".

Whatever it is, I still consider myself lucky enough to have this bunch of "sub-contractor, consultants and general workers" friends.

Good luck to all in your future undertakings. We'll see each other again in construction!

Quick Update : Bidor

Dry season is back, again! Every year, the dry spell will be made worse by fog and dusts from forest fire in the neighboring country. People fall sick easily. Drink lots of fluid. Take care, everybody! (It's final examination season~)

I took this photo with my lousy hand phone camera nearby Malim Nawar.

Not Bad for A RM500 Purchase, After All

It has been a while since I last updated my blog. Been busy for my final semester in UTP. I can't wait to start a new life in KL!

Passed by Ipoh just now on the way back to Bidor. So I got my youngest brother a new phone, replacing his old Nokia-duno-wat-model that still looks fine. The old phone is having some trouble with the LCD screen. Surprisingly, the technician at the hand phone shop said that the old Nokia works fine on a post-paid SIM card, but not pre-paid SIM card. Anybody having the same problem before? Please share the remedial measure.

Not bad for a RM500 purchase, including 1GB M2 memory card. The sound quality is good, and picture captured by the 2.0MP camera is clear.

Maybe it's time to get myself a new phone too! :)

Cai Shen (God of Prosperity)

Five of us were on the way back from Ipoh hours ago when Kah Ling suddenly blurted out "2305 lagi..mesti strike today!" And we continued talking about lottery and 4-D for about 5 minutes before we stopped at Kg Bali traffic light. Maybe my data collection interupted the conversation, but never mind.

I took a long shower after Ipoh trip because I am a self-declared germophobic guy. It's time to check my email for today's Pan Malaysia Pool draw result.

And this is what I got..

Though it's not the exact set of numbers (permutation bet can be made FYI), she might be the modern day, female version of Cai Shen!

Why Is It Wrong To Believe That I Am Right?

WARNING : This is an emotionally-charged posting. Do not proceed if you are a racist.

***

President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America once said,
"...teaching morality doesn't mean imposing my moral values on others. It means sharing wisdom, giving reasons for believing as I do - and then trusting others to think and judge for themselves."
An incident of moral policing in UTP campus compound prompted me to blog about morality. Although my ramblings will be not as informatic as your Moral Studies textbook, I hope by putting this up, people will be aware of this.

I was merely putting up a new car sticker onto a friend's front windscreen when two (2) men on a bike approaches us and asked "Er..tengah buat apa nih?" (It means : What are you doing here")

My instantaneous answer is "Tak buat apa-apa pon. Tampal sticker kereta saja." (Meaning : I'm just putting up the new car sticker!)

"Jangan lama-lama sangat." (Meaning : Don't be here for too long)

The two men on the bike took another two round-turning at the parking lot before feeling contented to leave.

For your information, every vehicle in UTP will be provided with a sticker with a minimal fee of RM2.o0. We will be granted easy access provided we exhibit the sticker on our vehicle. We are now given a period of 2 weeks to renew our car sticker for the year July 2009.

Why is it wrong to believe that I am right? I believe that I am right for helping my friend putting up her car sticker. I believe I am right for doing it and I do no offense by abiding to UTP's rule and regulation on vehicle access. Why suspect me for close proximity? Why suspect me? By sitting inside the car at night, nothing supervenes. We are not going to do anything in it.

And am I wrong for close proximity at the first place?

My dear Rakan Masjid friends, thank you for being so caring, but I am not bound to Syariah Laws. Please do not advance beyond the usual limit (READ : proper limit) of privacy. Please do not impose your moral values on me. Please do not paint a dirty perception that sitting inside the car at the car park at night will lead to sex. You will not suspect other people unless you yourself has a dirty and filthy mind.

My dear Rakan Masjid friends, we are living side-by-side and thus please respect each other. The car park is well lit and no one of sane mind would want to have their "heavenly time" there. I rather book a decent hotel outside.

Period.

Sightings at Ipoh-Lumut Highway

An unprecedented sighting. An old woman at Simpang Lima intersection, Ipoh-Lumut Highway. She is not the ordinary auntie you can see at markets. Sorry to say, I think she is retarded. But what is so interesting about her?

She walked for approximately 8 km from Simpang Lima to Federal Route 5 old road, leading to Sitiawan town. And that is really far for a woman of her age. I think she is 50 plus of Chinese ethnicity.

Map : The auntie's 8km long walk route

Photo : The auntie at Federal Route 5

Whenever I see neglected old people, I feel very sad for them. I wish I could change the world to be a better place. I can't find good words to construct a sentence now because I feel utterly disgusted by the way certain youngsters treat their parents. Is this how they repay parent's love?

Maybe Jack Neo should produce more films like "Money Not Enough". I remain sanguine that movies can play an effective role in edutainment.

JUXTAPOSITION OF 2004 and 2008

I did not have a chance to blog about the recent convocation of my room-mate, Shern Shiou until now. Projects, reports, assignments and all-the-related-hanky-panky came back-to-back in 2 weeks time. Worst thing is that, the due dates coincide with tests.

Mun Yoke was there too, because this is a joint convocation of January 2003, May 2003 , July 2003 and January 2004 (IT students). God knows how long it has been since I met her. Frankly, if not because Shern Shiou and Mun Yoke, I won't be staying back for this convocation. I want to see them in their robes! Smart and pretty~

Of course I won't miss any chance to take pictures with them.

Ban San looks very much "contractor-like" with his serious face. On the right is Jia Ann, my current room mate.

Aizat a.k.a Pervy

One of the HINDRAF5 strongmen on the run, hiding in cowboy town of Tronoh

Note how Shen (far-left) looks like in 2008. I got something for you in the end of this post.

Tsae Y'ng is my latest tease-victim. Her boyfriend, SIZHI has acquired my super-skill of "Press-release-press-release" and is using it against me now. (Sorry for the direct Cantonese-English translation)

Lenglui daikajie in her robes, but why am I standing like a pole?

Note how Shen (far-left) looks like again.

They throw their hat and did not manage to grab it back (sayur siot)

And....

This is what i call nerd.

A 2" Long Cut, A Deep Prick and 27 Superb Friends

Okay, I shared a bed with someone who snores. But I didn't kiss him. I shake his pillow whenever he snores.

This blog post is all about my Pangkor trip with my coursemates last weekend. Finally, after 2 weeks of preparation, arrangements, cost-cuttings, cancellations and what not, it is the time to take off. Four cars will depart in the morning while another two in the evening.

A shot before departing to Lumut

We reached Teluk Nipah at 12 noon, which the time is well within my expectation. We snorkelled in the evening at around 4PM. Came back to the shore at 6PM to realize that the girls are happily playing in the water.

"Skodeng FoC" at the beach

At night, it was the gluttony time. We overbudgeted food for 27 persons. I think we prepared food for almost 37 person, which explains why a full 3' x 2' x 2' plastic box of food is being stored in my room overnight.

Refuse to be photographed in the morning.

Waking up the next morning for beach volleyball. To my surprise, the court is being maintained by somebody, and we need to pay RM20.00 to use it. Yes, the guy claimed that he maintained the court yard well, but we found 2 piles of cat dung buried in the sand. WTF!

It's in between Mena and Jimi, so one is claiming responsibility on this ball.

Oh i forget to mention kayak. It cost RM15.00 per kayak per hour, shared by 2 person. We rowed around a small island opposite the shore.

The last picture before leaving Teluk Nipah

And, a 2" long cut, a deep prick and 27 superb friends from Pangkor trip.

A Night Out With Mat Le, Medea and Mena

I had been working hard for my Final Year Project for 3 days consecutively. Collecting spot speed data is not as simple as I initially thought, but nevertheless I actually enjoyed hiding inside the bushes, inconspicuous to the drivers.

Lucky me, I had a helping hand with my job yesterday evening. Mena was too boring staying in-campus that she decided to join me for spot speed studies nearby Bota,Perak.

I am quite into this type of job vis a vis speed voyeurism. The peeping tom at work

A million thanks to Mat Le too for being so kind to lend me his motorbike. My project would cost hell a lot more if I drive my own car to the study location.

I am now well ahead of schedule, with aplenty of time for other work. An outing to Ipoh would be a good reward for myself for working so hard. Bowling was our first stop.

Hey that was a STRIKE!

After bowling, it was around 12.10 midnight. Snooker centre adjacent to the bowling place is closed. So, we went to Seven for pool, instead.

Bragging session : My five consecutive stripes to victory!

Clumsy Mena is working hard to master the basic skills of cueing. She improved a lot in a night's time, thanks to supervision and lessons from 3 sifoos. Not bad for a beginner actually.

Lesson No 1 : Holding the cue properly

The night of clean fun ended at Padang Polo Ipoh. We chatted for one hour at the park before speeding back to UTP.

Moving Out

A close room mate of mine graduated and left me alone with one more semester to go for. Officially he is a graduate and a "liability to the society" since Petronas have not call him up for work, yet. To me he left all the good wills and hope, and a big water dispenser too. I pray for his success in life.

While training, Master Shidu of Kungfu UTP answered a phone call. (Photo credit : Wei-zhu)

I moved up to Level 4 of the same block where I have previously stayed for 6 months. Of course the view is magnificent here. Lushes of greenery surround New Village 5, and micro-climate here is temperate. However, it can get a bit hot in the room especially rooms with orientation facing the afternoon sunlight. One good point of moving to a room so high above is no mosquitoes. My previous 6 semesters staying on ground floor has been terrible. We have no choice but to close the window when night comes, sleeping in a stuffy room for more than 8 hours.

Yeah did I mention that I got a new pair of spectacles? This is me, caught cam-whoring with my new spectacles.

I might need Schick Quattro Razor. Chew, any trial shave?

Oh god. I am hungaray~ I ate only a burger for my lunch. I shall pen off and begin the quest for dinner.

Next post : Use Durex, save Dumex.

Pilot Test

It has been a day of hard work for me doing pilot test for my Final Year Project.

Woke up at 10.00 AM feeling hungry, I quickly gobble down the High5 bread that I bought for breakfast. Complemented with a cup of white coffee, it would be superb. Hahaha am I conscious? There's no coffee on the table, just the cup! =(

After lunch at 1.15 PM, it's time for one-man-show. I went off to overhead bridge in front UTP gate to start my pilot test. I measured the road, I marked the upstream, I marked the downstream, all under the hot burning sun of Tronoh town.

Preparation took me 15 minutes while data collection took another 15 (Ipoh-Lumut). Done with that, I have to turn around and start collecting data for opposite direction, which is Lumut-Ipoh.

All together, I spent 1 hour on the overhead bridge.

Photo : Highway leading towards Ipoh direction

Not bad that UTP actually have beautiful sceneries with 7 lakes surrounding Old Village 5. All the lakes have undergo dredging, with channels connecting them together.

Farewell to Mahen and Shern Shiou

Finally exams are over. No more books for now and of course it's time for happy hour together with friends. Stars for the night are Mahen and Shern Shiou, who has completed their studies in UTP for a total period of four(4) and a half year. While for me, I have another one(1) semester to go.

We had our farewell dinner in Diners' Arm Ipoh, situated near Padang Ipoh. It's quite a cozy place. Honestly this is my first time to a so-called high class diner place. We took a lot of pictures, but unfortunately they have not been uploaded for sharing in mIRC.

This is the only picture I managed to grab from Siew Mei's Facebook.

From left : Shern Shiou, myself, Siew Mei and Natasya

After the dinner, all of us took pictures together for remembrance. The highlight of all pictures is Beh and Set Lee.

From left : Beh, Set Lee

Photo : Edwin feels intimidated

Picture credit to Wei-zhu who snapped Beh and Set Lee quietly with his camera phone. I think there are more beautiful shots taken that night, so I shall upload them as soon as I get them.

Next agenda for the night is karaoke at Ipoh Parade. Somehow it made me think of my internship period in Cheras. It has been long since I sing out loud to my throat. Beulah and me sang " Kau Ilhamku". Sigh..what to do. I am English educated thus I couldn't sing any Chinese song. Yes, none. I am a banana.

Karaoke close early that night because it was a weekday. The night is still young, so we settle down in a coffee house situated behind Ipoh Jusco to quench our thirst. We ordered 8 bottles of Carlsberg and got 2 free EURO2008 mugs. One for Mahen, and another for Shern Shiou.

It never crosses my mind that they wanted to play Truth or Dare. The details : CLASSIFIED.
